Dual nationality continues to gain popularity

Even though the American constitution does not explicitly address the topic of dual citizenship, the Supreme Court has ruled that “a person may have and exercise rights of nationality in two countries and be subject to the responsibilities of both.”

Today, there are many countries that allow dual nationality. The most recent country to allow dual nationality is Bulgaria. It amended the citizenship law in 2017, permitting its citizens to hold dual nationality, regardless of how they obtained their Bulgarian citizenship.

In the last two decades, several other countries, including Portugal, Greece, and Montenegro, have also made changes to their citizenship laws in the wake of an increase in demand for “economic citizenship programmes”.
